সুন্দরবনের পশু-পাখি মনে হয় এই শীতে খুবই ভাল আছে ! কারন তাদের আর পানির মধ্যে গোসল করতে হচ্ছে না ।প্রায় ৩৫০ বর্গকিলোমিটার এলাকা জুড়ে এখন খালি তেল আর তেল । গত পাচঁ দিনের জোয়ার ভাটায় এই তেল ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে প্রায় ৩৫০ বর্গকিলোমিটার এলাকা পর্যন্ত ।এতে বিপর্যস্ত হয়ে পড়েছে বিশ্বের সব চেয়ে বড় ম্যানগ্রোভ বনের পরিবেশ এবং প্রানিকূল।

সুন্দরবনের বাংলাদেশ অংশের মোট আয়তন ছয় হাজার কিলোমিটার। সেই হিসাবে সুন্দরবনের ৬ শতাংশ এলাকায় তেল ছড়ালেও এই এলাকা সুন্দরবনের সবচেয়ে জীববৈচিত্র্যপূর্ণ এলাকা। বনের কত দূর এলাকায় তেল ছড়াল, তার প্রাথমিক হিসাব করে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছে বন বিভাগ।

সুন্দরবনে তেল ছড়িয়ে পড়ায় আন্তর্জাতিক উদ্বেগের পর এবার ওই তেল নিয়ন্ত্রণে সরকারকে সহযোগিতার প্রস্তাব দিয়েছে জাতিসংঘসহ কয়েকটি উন্নয়ন সহযোগী রাষ্ট্র ও সংস্থা।যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের একটি আবহাওয়াবিষয়ক সংস্থা নোয়া এবং লন্ডনভিত্তিক বিজ্ঞানীদের একটি দল তেল নিয়ন্ত্রণে সরকারকে সহযোগিতা দেওয়ার প্রস্তাব দিয়েছে।

এদিকে ভারত সরকার আগে থেকেই পাহারা বসিয়ে রেখেছে যাতে করে এই তেল কোন মতেও ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গ অংশে প্রবেশ করতে না পারে । খবর ;

বর্তমান ইন্টারনেটে সামাজিক যোগাযোগের অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় ওয়েবসাইট হচ্ছে ফেসবুক। বাংলাদেশে বর্তমান ফেসবুকে নিবন্ধিত ব্যবহারকারীর সংখ্যা কোটি ছাড়িয়ে । বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশে এই সংখ্যা প্রায় এক কোটি আট লাখ ।ফেসবুক কম্পানির কর্মকর্তাদের সাথে কথা বলে এই তথ্য জানা গেছে।অথচ ২০০৯ সালেও বাংলাদেশে ফেসবুক ব্যবহারকারীর সংখ্যা ছিল মাত্র ৯৫ হাজার এর মত । কিন্তু বর্তমানে দেশে প্রতি আট সেকেন্ডে ফেসবুকে একটি করে নতুন আইডি খোলা হচ্ছে।বর্তমান বিশ্বের প্রায় ১৮০ কোটি লোক ফেসবুকে যুক্ত আছে ।এদের মধ্যে প্রায় ১০০ কোটি লোক নিয়মিত ফেসবুক ব্যবহার করে ।
বাংলাদেশের নারীদের চেয়ে পুরুষেরাই বেশি ফেসবুক ব্যবহার করছে ।এর সংখ্যা প্রায় ৮৬ লক্ষ (৭৯.৬%)। আমাদের দেশের নারী ফেসবুক ব্যবহারকারীর সংখ্যা কম হলেও বিশ্বজুড়ে বেশির ভাগ ফেসবুক ব্যবহারকারী হল নারী ।বিশ্বের অন্যান্য দেশের মতো বাংলাদেশেও তরুণেরাই সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ এবং তারাই ফেসবুক ব্যবহারে অনেক এগিয়ে ।বাংলাদেশে ১৩-২৫ বছর বয়সীর ফেসবুক ব্যবহারকারীর সংখ্যাই বেশি।
সামাজিক যোগাযোগের এই অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় মাধ্যমটিতে  মতামত প্রকাশ, ছবি কিংবা ভিডিও আপলোড করে শিয়ার  করা এবং  বিভিন্ন গ্রুপে বিভিন্ন সমস্যা নিয়ে আলাপ-আলোচনা করা যায়। এটি  নিজের
প্রতিষ্ঠান বা কম্পানির প্রচার ও বিভিন্ন পূণ্যের বিজ্ঞাপনের কাজও করে ।

২০০৮ সাল থেকে মূলত বাংলাদেশে ফেসবুকের ব্যবহার  বৃদ্ধি পায়।২০১০-২০১১ সালে মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের দেশগুলোতে এর ব্যবহার বৃদ্ধি পায়।গত কয়েক বছরে দেশে ব্যবহারকারীর সংখ্যা প্রায় তিন গুণ বেড়েগেছে ।বাংলাদেশে এর ব্যবহারের বৃদ্ধির জন্য মোবাইল অপারেটরেরা ২০১৩ সালে দেশে তৃতীয় প্রজন্মের দ্রুতগতির ইন্টারনেট সেবা নিয়ে আসে ।এছাড়াও বাংলাদেশে চালু করা হয় বিনামূল্যে ফেসবুক বা জিরো ফেসবুক । ২০১৩ সালে ৫ ই জুন থেকে মাত্র ২ মাস সময় কালে আরো নতুন প্রায় ১৬ লক্ষ নিবন্ধণ করা হয় ।
